Premium Service: Total Stats Pro

The people who bring you great free feed statistics (that would be us) today announce the launch of Total Stats Pro, FeedBurner's first premium service. Total Stats Pro gives feed publishers a more detailed analysis of feed statistics by going another level deeper beyond feed circulation. Everybody still gets the great free circulation reports, but for those who want more, Total Stats Pro gives you

  • Detailed feed item stats, including item level popularity and item views
  • Referrer reports by item that help you understand not only which web-based aggregators are driving traffic back to your site, but also identify any non-aggregators that are repurposing your feed content
  • Detailed ad metrics

There are several different price packages for Total Stats Pro, depending on the number of feeds you want to track. Pricing starts at $4.99/month for publishers that want to apply pro stats to 1-3 feeds. Apply Total Stats Pro only to those feeds you want to track in more detail. If you run 5 feeds through us, but you only want to track a couple in more detail, then just activate Total Stats Pro for those couple feeds and stay in the lowest price point.

As we have mentioned in the past when forecasting the introduction of premium services, the existing free stats services remain free, AND we are also enhancing the free service. Why would we enhance the free service on the day we roll out a premium service? Because we believe that there are countless additions we could make to free stats and still offer compelling premium solutions. Because we believe we will be successful if we provide the most amazing combination of free and premium services. Because we didn't go to business school! We will also continue to upgrade Total Stats Pro over the next few months, sometimes rolling out minor additions, other times making larger enhancements.

The additions to the free service are summary ad performance metrics and a circulation trend chart. Getting complicated? Let's review:

Existing:

  • Feed circulation reports, still free!

New:

  • Ad summary performance, free
  • Detailed feed item statistics, Total Stats Pro
  • Referrer report and where is my feed republished, Total Stats Pro
  • Detailed ad metrics, Total Stats Pro
  • Circulation trend chart, free

If you've read this far, it's time to take a look at the Total Stats Pro product summary and pricing chart. If you don't know if you're the kind of person who needs Total Stats Pro (we are confident you are that kind of person, you might just not know it yet!), there is a free trial period of 15 days. At any time during the first 15 days, if you decide it's not right for you, just cancel the service at no charge.

Frequently Asked Questions:
Are you going to start charging for the free service?
No

Does Total Stats Pro cost less if I (am nice, have a short feed, sign up for 3 years in advance)?
No

What is the refund policy?
There is a 15 day free trial. Refunds can not be issued after that. If you cancel at any time after the free trial, you'll pay for your current month but you won't be charged again. We have not offered an annual price discount because we want to keep things simple and eliminate the support headaches of publishers that need to cancel an annual subscription eight months in, etc. By offering a monthly only pricing approach with a 15 day free trial at a low price point, we are confident that the no refunds policy is both reasonable and an efficient way to keep support costs (and therefore the total cost of the service) down.

Are you going to say "$4.99 is less than the price of a latte and a bagel" or something like that?
No. We don't drink lattes so we don't know how much they cost*. We can and will say that our pricing is lower than comparable web stats pricing.

*We mean no disrepect to anybody that says their product/service prices are lower than the price of a latte, which we think might include the businesses of people with whom we are meeting in the next few days.

(From a happy european user of existing Feedbburner services)

Any chance to be able to pay by other means than credit cards for those who want to upgrade from free service? (Paypal or something equivalent)

The reason for this question: MC & Visa charge fees that would probably exceed the own cost of Premium service when we do payments abroad with credit cards. I can't accept to give them more than the service I pay for!

PS: keep up the with the good work and the upgrade of current free service is already very valuable from what I have seen on your site for my feed this morning when I discovered your post)

We have been investigating paypal and will probably accept payment that way sometime soon. Given the reasonable desire for people outside of the US to prefer this method of payment, we'll move it up on the list of priorities. Thanks for bringing this to our immediate attention. Very much appreciated.

Yes, Paypal would definately be appreciated. By the way, does this mean Feedburner is mature?

One complaint/issue/suggestion. When the switch was made this weekend to launch the new PRO service the default stats layout was changed. I now have to go to the 'Content Item Stats' tab to see the click-thru numbers.

Previously all this data was on a single page. I prefer the single page because that one page gave the the snapshot I wanted (Daily Readership and Content Items). Now I have to look at two pages. I almost exclusviely use the 24-hour view so the Daily Circulation Trend does not apply.

I would like to be able to select what stats I want shown on a page.

Thanks for this feedback, Josh. We've heard this elsewhere since launch and we believe that adding publisher-controlled layout features to the stats reporting user interface makes a lot of sense.

I posted this question earlier but I don't think it made it to the message board.

I use the standard service but I've been noticing that my stats have been going up and down all day. Is there something wrong with Feedburner or is there another explanation I'm not aware of?

Thanks for your time.
