I love the SmartFeed function that FeedBurner provides. When I give out my feed address, I know it'll be accessible from any browser, podcatcher, or news aggregator software. So everyone can tune in to the podcast. Much love for FeedBurner!" - Simon and the team at musiccanteen.com, the music download site for independent musicians 2/22/06

FeedBurner Facts & Stats

September 19, 2005

Is This Thing On?

Somebody told us the other day that this podcast thing was getting big, and we figured we better get out in front of it. So why not create our own podcast? And who better to create our own podcast than us? Hopefully, you'll cut us some slack on our late entry: we've spent the last year making FeedBurner a powerful service for podcasters and now manage almost 20,000 podcasts around the world. Do you like the way we slyly worked in a marketing message there?

We wanted to launch the FeedBurner podcast to give you a better sense of what we're up to, help you understand how to get more out of FeedBurner, and generally provide some thoughts about relevant developments in a changing media landscape. This first podcast is mostly about us. You're forgiven for not submitting questions or comments since you didn't know about our new podcast. But now you have no excuse: if you speak up, this podcast will be all about you. Make Mom proud!

Listen to Episode 1 (25:15)

Some show notes:

  • FeedBurner Interaction Designer John Zeratsky talks about the recent redesign, and offers some thoughts about what's keeping the design team busy now that the redesign is live.
  • Gakwer Media's Chris Batty checked in with us via Skype, and spent a few minutes talking about Gawker's new sports blog Deadspin, what motivated Gawker to use FeedBurner to measure their feed traffic, and how they're working with us to monetize their feeds.

And me? I'm hoping that you'll send us your comments via Skype (my Skype ID: RickKlau), via e-mail, or via del.icio.us (just tag an mp3 file with "feedburnerpodcast"). Want us to talk about your podcast (we understand there are a few of you out there)? Send us a note. Ask a question. Tell us about something cool you're doing with FeedBurner that we didn't know about. (Tell us how FeedBurner makes your day a little brighter, gives your life meaning, or reveals information about your feeds that you can't get anywhere else. Take your pick.)

Things we already know about this podcast: we need better audio equipment. I say "uh" a lot. And just because sound effects are in GarageBand doesn't mean that they're cool.

Want to subscribe to the podcast? Subscribers to the Burning Questions feed (that's this blog) will start seeing enclosures in the feed; the podcast-only feed is here. We'll post regularly - and we promise to stop using the "siren" and "buzzer" sound effects in GarageBand.

Great to hear you guys on the airwaves (errr...) binary-waves. Keep up the good work (as always)! Plus, it's always good to know what's going on behind the scenes.

Ed

Add total time to the shownotes, please. I enjoyed listening, but like to know the total commitment before I listen. (FYI, for others, this one was just shy of 24 minutes... plus a minute or more of music at the end.)

John - Good call, we'll definitely do that for upcoming episodes. Thanks for the comment.

Just wanted to say your system is so nice to use. I wanted to get into Podcasting for a while but didn't have the time to keep writing the .xml feeds. Your system works wonders except..... other languages.... I know it is UTF-8 or something, but your system strips it once I think, then sticks on the code again. I did some Japanese description, updated, looked ok, then went back after 6 hours or so, and unreadable... just a comment about that... I will keep on trying. Maybe someone brought this up...

Ryan

Thanks, Ryan - stay tuned - we are definitely working on making the system compatible with encoding schemes beyond UTF-8 end-to-end.

Wanted to make sure you noticed that this blog post says audio submissions can be tagged "feedburnerpodcast" but in the podcast itself you said to tag them "for:feedburnerpodcast" if memory serves me correctly.

I am going to try and remember to send you an mp3 via that method with some thoughts. Sure am excited about the podcast and your service generally.

you said ask the burning question and get the scoop .well i've posted so many but i guess your bias/false info
