I love the SmartFeed function that FeedBurner provides. When I give out my feed address, I know it'll be accessible from any browser, podcatcher, or news aggregator software. So everyone can tune in to the podcast. Much love for FeedBurner!" - Simon and the team at musiccanteen.com, the music download site for independent musicians 2/22/06

Broad Support for Yahoo! Podcasts

Another day, another step forward in the world of subscribed content. The recent announcement of Yahoo! Podcasts has led to a number of podcasters asking us how we help them get listed in the Yahoo! podcasts directory and whether we're going to support one-click subscriptions. The answers are yes and yes, in no particular order. There are actually three things we are now providing in support of Yahoo! Podcasts:

  • One Click Subscribe: FeedBurner now supports the "pcast" one-click subscribe method for iTunes and Yahoo! Music Engine. Just ensure that your podcast uses the "Browser-Friendly" service with the "podcast" theme, and you'll be all set.

  • Yahoo! Podcasts Directory Listing: If you already use PingShot for your podcast, you will notice that Yahoo! is one of the default ping services. PingShot will notify Yahoo! of new podcast feeds as well as new podcasts in existing feeds. If you use PingShot, your podcast should always be included and updated at Yahoo! Podcasts. If you don't use PingShot, now would be a good time to start. Go ahead, we'll wait for you to turn that on before we continue.

  • Media RSS: Yahoo! supports Media RSS, so if you select Media RSS support on the SmartCast service within FeedBurner, your podcast will be indexed properly by Yahoo's rich media search (and as an added benefit, playback of your files will be enabled within My Yahoo!).

Any questions? Come visit us in our always friendly and well-staffed Forums.

Note: If you already use FeedBurner for your podcast and have previously selected PingShot, Media RSS support and the podcast theme for Browser-Friendly, then you are very likely already fully baked into Yahoo! podcasts without doing anything. If you've previously thought to yourself, "why would I use this FeedBurner service?", then we hope you are starting to see the light. Our motto is "check this box now in order to profit mightily in the future". We realize we should have a catchier motto, so we'll translate our current motto into Latin as a placeholder until we come up with something more compelling.

So now I have a Yahoo! podcast feed, a personal feed, and a work feed - how do I join them? We've been asking for this kind of functionality for ages - is it coming?

Why not add iTunes to the chicklet chooser so people can promote that option too.

And, how do you find you iTunes podcast ID?

I second john jantsch's suggestion about an iTunes chicklet choice.

I'm a bit confused also: is there already somewhere a link Feedburner has created for an iTunes 1-click subscription I can put on my website?

On my feed page, it has at the top a "Subscribe with Yahoo!" and iTunes link, but it's just a link to my feed url.

Also on my feed page, it has on the right box a "One-Click Subscription" link, which is also just a link to my feed url.

Shouldn't both of those be 1-click links?

Thanks!

@John Jantsch - to find your iTunes podcast id. Find your show in the directory. Go the the details page and right click (windows) or control click (Mac) on the show name - copy the iTunes URL. Use that in your hyperlinks.

Oh wow! I've been looking for this for the past hour. Thanks for a simple answer for how to get the iTunes Subscription ID ( and including both Mac and PC answers ).
