joga.com - ah, good. MySpace for soccer. why not.

Google and Nike get together to create a social networking platform centered around soccer and Joga Bonito, a Nike branded version of futsol.  what is futsol?  3 on 3 soccer on a small hardcourt field, with a slightly heavier ball, made famous by Ronaldinho.  There, you learned something new today.

Anyway, another chance to upload funny high school soccer picture.

Windows World Cup Gadget / RSS reader

click through for some cool screenshots

ah, rss and the world cup.  that pretty much sums up my life lately.

i *think* that's how they wanted to spell it.  thanks to mr. andrew for pointing this out.  i actually think this is a ploy by MSFT to find pirated copies of windows since they require you to validate, but it's a great desktop widget nonetheless.   you can even add one RSS feed as well.  just one, though.

Rick's first take on Outlook 2007 and RSS support

I was going to write up my initial thoughts on Outlook 2007 and it's RSS support, but Rick beat me to it...and he said pretty much exactly what I would have said.  So without further adieu, go visit tins via the link below.

WineLog - needs more wines!

I drink a lot of wine.  I was brought up in an italian household where there was always wine on the table for every meal, albeit cheap, shitty wine.  Since then, my wine palate has refined a bit.  I've been waiting for a site like WineLog which just launched today.  Unfortunately, none of my favorites are in there for rating as of yet.  It's early, so I imagine it will all be there soon.

This is a great example of a niche community site that could do really well - I imagine soon I'll be able to put JavaScript of my wine ratings on this blog, etc.  hint, hint, hint.

scary situation in Brazil's prisons

prisons in some form have been around i'm sure as long as human history, but i always wonder if societies can't come up with some better way.  i guess the british brought them off to some remote island.  scary stuff.

VOIP on PSP and DS coming soon

cool idea, the issue of course is that both of these devices are single tasking, so you would have to totally back out of doing one thing to place or make a call...unlike a phone that interrupt a game when a call comes in.  or am i wrong?

cinco de mayo

uno, dos, tres, quatro, cinco

"cinco de mayo" is a mexican holiday, that is only celebrated by americans.  it is yet another excuse for americans to drink.  if you ask mexican about cinco de mayo in mexico, they will tell you "it's not such a big deal."

the holiday in mexico commemmorates the mexicans, who had a much weaker army, opening up a big can of whoop-ass and kicking the french's asses.   and americans seem to like to drink when anyone kicks some french ass.  go figure.

here's my favorite margarita -  1 shot Don Julio  añejo, 1 shot  "cuarenta y tres"¨sometimes just called "liquor 43", 1 shot  cointreau,  2 shots  fresh lime juice.   put it in a  shaker with a bunch of ice,  shake it up and pour into a martini glass.

Murakami in Guardian Unlimited

my absolute favorite author is Haruki Murakami.  born in Japan, but then a professsor at Princeton for some time, all of his writings seem to strike the right chords with me.  i've read all his books, and was pleased to see this excerpt in the Guardian.

give him a try...

KoreaCrunch

An interesting new blog popped up on my radar this week - KoreaCrunch (no relation to TechCrunch, but in honor of TechCrunch) has some interesting facts and followings of Web2.0 as it evolves in the Korean market.  Take for example this graph on search penetration...Naver is kicking ass; Google is getting their ass kicked.

Opera Mini 2.0 [via MobHappy]

somehow i missed that Carlo Longino started blogging again.  if you are into mobile, you should definitely subscribe to his feed.

the real point of this post though is that Opera Mini 2.0 is now available.  i used to be down on mobile browsing but it is getting better and better and better, and i really rely on it now from my blackberry.

if you have a java capable phone, go to:

http://mini.opera.com/

and give this a try.  chances are, it's better than the existing browser on  your pink RAZR.

honky tonk badonkadonk in Tokyo

ah, another united airlines goody.

so, i've boarded my 747 in narita, japan.  luckily my upgrade went through and i'm up top in 15d, where they got the music playing before boarding.  i grab my blanket and prepare for a 12 hour nap and kirin/sake detox, when i notice what's playing.  it's united launching their on-board XM radio  featuring the highway 16 channel! woo hoo!  and here i am, in tokyo, on a plane with half americans, half japanese people, listening to none other than that trace adkins song about some woman's ass.  welcome back to the US of A!

here's a sampling:

Now Honey, you can't blame her

For what her mama gave her

It ain't right to hate her

For workin' that money-maker

Band shuts down at two

But we're hangin' out till three

We hate to see her go

But love to watch her leave

With that honky tonk badonkadonk

Keepin' perfect rhythm

Make ya wanna swing along

Got it goin' on

Like Donkey Kong

And whoo-wee

Shut my mouth, slap your grandma

There outta be a law

Get the Sheriff on the phone

Lord have mercy, how's she even get them britches on

With that honky tonk badonkadonk

Eric really says all you need to say.  This was the first actual CD I have bought in a long time.  Sometimes you just gotta have the packaging.  Plus, neither Yahoo! nor the Russians had it.  I couldn't wait.

sphere launches, pot growers rejoice

sphere.jpg

sphere launched yesterday. another entry in the blog search arena. let's hope this one can be real time and keep the spammers out.

the funny thing is, for the last two days, "marijuana growing" has been a hourly top search as well as a top search for the week. now i am going to write about it, causing many of you to click on the search for marijuana growing , and thus the vicious cycle begins anew.

and, yes, i clicked on "milf" too.

the producers...en route to Frankfurt

L.S.D. (Dick Shawn) as Adolf Hitler confers with his advisors

i've added another category to this blog called "united airlines" simply because i fly them a lot, and i encounter a lot of funny stuff whilst doing so.   i want to start documenting such aforementioned funny stuff.

the first being, on my recent trip to milan, i flew through frankfurt on united...from chicago it's really the only way to go.  it was the usual mix of americans and germans, stars, stripes, and um-pa-pas.

one of the movies everyone (including me) was watching was "the producers" - the movie version of the nathan lane/matthew broderick broadway show,  the storyline which goes like this...

nathan lane plays a aging, womanizing (!), over-the-hill broadway producer and matthew broderick plays his accountant.  the matthew broderick character notices that the nathan lane character only makes money when his shows close quickly, so they quickly scheme to get some investment (from bagging little old ladies) and then close the show by picking the worst script they can find.

this script is a play called "springtime for hitler" where the furher himself is portrayed as a limp-wristed, flaming showtunes-loving guy who swishes in front of dancers forming a swastika college football marching band style - but of course the play is a hit, and hilarity ensues.

now as many of you may or may not know...in germany these days, any nazi symbols or other references are strictly <i>verboten</i> - you can't even play such videogame favorites as "castle wolfenstein" or "return to castle wolfenstein" because of the nazi banners that hang on the walls.

at any rate...i'm watching this thinking...."did the person at united who chose this film for a flight from ORD-FRA know what they were doing?  is this an elbow to someone's side, or pure ignorance?  do the germans who are watching this understand it is all toungue-in-cheek?"

at any rate, i got a good chuckle out of that.  i might have even peed a little.
