This photoshoot was a lot of fun.  Like most visits to Tokyo, it was straight out of Lost In Translation

"More Intensity!"

More pictures in the links below.  "No. 1 RSS FeedBurner"  that's all you need to know.  "Ichiban" means "Number 1"  we heard it a lot.

Montana

i'm always amazed with the vastness of the Montana sky. it really is "big" and this picture doesn't do it justice. just got done with a short vacation (after a 3 day air delay, yes, 3 day) - well, as much as one can take a vacation these days. it's really amazing how good the cell phone reception is at ski resorts. i guess because they can make money by renting real estate for towers at the top! in between skiing (which was truly amazing since i couldn't even walk two weeks ago) i had to take a bunch of calls at the top of the mountain, bottom of the mountain...you name it. and the reception was always better than at my house.

at any rate enjoy this cool rock formation that was in view during this entire run.

Heathrow Express offers net access on the move - Computing

Every mode of transport should have wi-fi.  I pretty much always use the Heathrow Express for every trip to London, but I'm usually way to tired upon landing there to want to use wi-fi, but it's still cool:

The service will provide 8Mbps broadband connection for the length of the journey, including through tunnels, to enable passengers to send email or surf the internet.

Jet Lag shortens life span of mice

They don't know if it affects humans.  I am guessing it does.

I'm fairly certain a healthy lifestyle includes hunting and killing your food for lunch, followed by  a siesta, and does not include the destruction of one's cicadian rhythms.

The onset of winter in Chicago is usually accompanied by the desire to sleep 16 hours per day. A vestige of some sort of hibernation I'm sure...

Martín Varsavsky invests in Menéame

In a recent speaking gig in Spain, i had the pleasure to meet Ricardo Galli, an Argentinian, now living in Mallorca (Spain), who is the founder of Menéame, a website which is often described to me as "the Spanish Digg clone", but is also an open source platform where other communities can create their own little "Digg clones".

Menéame (which roughly translates to "shake me") has been a FeedBurner publisher for some time, and also a member of FeedBurner Ad Network in our Spanish language targeted ad channel.   Early on they created a "send to Meneame" FeedFlare that can be found in such publications as Alt1040 and Xataka, and they publish that about 0.1% of their traffic comes from this FeedFlare.  That may seem like a small number, but there are certainly secondary effects of this traffic that starts to snoball over time.

But there's a couple other things that interest me about Menéame - the first being the point above about it also being an open source platform.

There's as the time of this writing, 145 installations of this platform, in many different languages - most of which can be found here.  There's all sorts of micro-communties forming here around this "Digg-like" software, which I think is pretty neat.  At any rate, that type of takeup of a platform is pretty interesting.

The second thing is from their stats page, which shows traffic by country.  That's a pretty large percentage of their traffic that is coming from the United States.  This begins to show you how the Latin American population in the U.S. absolutely is involved in social media, and becomes a distinct segment in which to market.

Countries

At any rate, congrats Ricardo and Benjami on your financing - hopefully it helps you take this platform to the next level.

OG, Original Geisha

Back from Japan, it's time to post the YouTube videos of what can only be considered a once in a lifetime experience: Dinner served by geisha. Real geisha, the traditional entertainers of Japan who are skilled in the art of well, serving and entertainment.

After dinner, geisha played drinking games.

here they are: 2 drinking games.  1)  fill up the sake glass with some sake, and pass it on.  the person who makes it spill drinks.  2)   there's a cucumber flower under one of the sake glasses.  Turn one over and pass it on.  if you find the flower, you drink the number of shots that are turned over.

SES Milano

Here's me (center) with Tiziano Fogliata (left) and Simone Carletti (right) at SES in Milan this week.  Tiziano and Simone have been two of the biggest proponents of FeedBurner we've had in Italy, and they continued to do so at SES.

Korean casinos

oh, this was interesting....while in Korea, there was actually a casino attached to my hotel. they checked your passport before going in the casino. why?

because only foriegners are allowed in the casino!

yep, if you had no passport or have a Korean passport, no entrada. "Sin for everyone else but us." you gotta love it!
