Highly Recommended

Fortunato might be the best restaurant in Chicago right now. Let the Chicago Tribune's two-star review of this place serve as a reminder that you should never, ever, pay any attention to the Tribune food critic - their critic goes in for stunning decor and beautiful people and never really seems to have any consistency with which evaluating restaurants. Fortunately, gentle reader, you have me here to point you in the right direction, and I'm telling you that Fortunato, latest endeavor of (by?) Jenny Newbury, is outstanding. My wife and I have eaten there four times. The menu is inventive, the food is prepared wonderfully, and the wine list is very thoughtful. The service is casual but very attentive. I would say it's better than Union Square Cafe in new york at its peak....yes, i know that union square cafe is American Cuisine and this is italian. Still, the service and approach are very like minded, and I say Fortunato is better. Nuff said.
