Interesting Sociological Commentary on Why SNL is not funny

For a long time, a long long time, SNL has not been funny. Some people are funny, like Tina Fey on Weekend Update, or Eddie Murphy doing Gumby, but the show is not funny, and hasn't been since....well, maybe since the original cast. my theory on the demise of snl:

fallonitis. as in...

cute-ish cast members rehash old bits and rely on techniques like increased volume and breaking-character-to-laugh for humor. oh, plus a fat guy.

Lorne Michaels is to comedy what Pat Rielly is to basketball, and what so very many CEOs are to their new companies. the formula goes like this: a) wildly successfuly run with early group of people leads to b) massive creative freedom from follow-on investors who believe you were the guiding reason for success but c) we the public learn over time that the success was indeed due probably more largely to the supporting cast and not the boss, however d) the boss never learns this and becomes a greater and greater tyrant until e) he is kind of a joke version of himself
