Verizon's decision to drop their opposition to Wireless Number Portability makes me wonder if they've come up with a cool way to turn this churn magnet into a positive. You would think there would be a couple operators who would figure out some cool way to make wnp a plus for them. In hong kong, wnp has indeed been a burden for the operators, with churn skyrocketing upon introduction, and then rocketing again on every anniversary of the introduction, as one year contracts expire and customers hop to the operator with the coolest devices, best new ads, whatever. Do i think that Verizon really does have something up their sleeves on wnp? no, i don't. do i think that somebody could think up some really cool advantage if they set their mind to it? yes, why yes i do.

note to consumers: lock-in those cool cell phone numbers people, come november they may never be available again!
