With Nokia entering the DVR business, there's more to think about than whether or not Tivo has a serious competitor in the vicinity. What I really want to start doing is syndicating my camera phone photos, and auto-tagging them in such a way that they are immediately shuttled off to interested parties who may be viewing them via any number of mediums. A really cool scenario that seems imminently doable given nokia's position on both ends of the communication is the following: I'm on vacation, i'm shooting pictures on my camera phone, and they are being syndicated to a central repository. Meanwhile, back home, the kids are subscribing to my camera phone "feed" via the DVR, and a quick flick of the remote over to channel 24 shows the kids some rotating pattern of photos from this trip. Lots of interesting possibilities here, both on the repository side, and on the DVR side. How long before i can attach sound bytes to the pictures that get syndicated right along with the image and the kids can hear my commentary about some image along with the photo.
To say nothing of SMS to the TV.....more on that later but I can think of a TON of uses for this....
Posted by Dick at August 31, 2003 03:09 PM | TrackBackif you merge the features of that with the the nokia observation camera you can really start to see some neat technology coming out of nokia. hopefully they don't omit some critical features like they did omitting GPRS from the 92XX communicators, and the ability to hot swap in N-Gage...well they haven't officially launched N-Gage, there's still time to fix the flaws there...but this is indeed some good underlying technology. the trick will be making it user friendly, so that things like "subscribing to the feed" can be done by our parents without much trouble.
