Current Score: Cricket 2, Snake 4, Me 0

When I last left you, gentle reader, I was planning on returning home last night to eliminate the cricket before he/she/it started chirping away into the night again. Well, wouldn't you know it, we went out for dinner and drank lots of martinis instead. Imagine my anxiety when I returned home, well past nightfall, in absolutely no shape to do battle with the cricket. Alas! Well, there was silence in the cricket's room. I'm working on the possibly inaccurate assumption that the cricket knows it shouldn't leave that room until i catch it. Anyway, I went to bed, but I dreamed the cricket started chirping again. Or maybe I didn't dream it but i'd had too many martinis to distinguish reality from dream in the middle of the night. In any case, I slept fitfully, thinking to myself how foolish I'd been not to come straight home and eliminate the cricket. Now, i'm afraid i no longer really know where the cricket is, or whether it's alive or dead or breeding in another room (perhaps it has found a long dormant cricket elsewhere in the house, and now they will set about building a giant cricket-opolis in my home). In other news, the snake seems to have recovered quite nicely from yesterday's trauma and has eaten all four of the worms we recovered. Good boy.
