Mobipocket reader

Mobipocket Reader

One application that has really changed my life is Mobipocket Reader. There are a bunch of eBook readers out there on different platforms, but one main reason I am sticking with a Series 60 phone for now is this app.

You see, I hate travelling and commuting with books. They take up a lot of room in my bag not to mention the extra weight. Secondly, I often read multiple books at one time, which makes the first problem even worse.

I have to admit, i was a little skeptical that i could read a book on a phone but it actually works really well, especially in short bursts like waiting for a train.

The Mobipocket website makes it easy to buy books and load them on the phone, but if you want to read literature available under other licensing models such as Cory Docotorow's Eastern Standard Tribe you can find versions that are readable on Mobipocket as well.

Also available for UIQ and other platfoms.

Avalanche

Avalanche

Avalanche is an addictive little game for the Symbian Series 60 devices that is similar to Tetris. It includes a mode for head to head bluetooth play, and was amazingly written by four students for a competition.

HandDee GTuner Series 60

HandDee GTuner Series 60

If you had asked me ten years ago if I'd be using my phone as a guitar tuner, I would have said you were nuts. Actually, I would have said "why would I have a phone with me?" That's one of the things that is so amazing about this app. The second is that it seems to work just as well as any other tuner on the market with your Series 60 phone. Well, as they say, close enough for rock and roll.

You may think this is a joke but you'd be surprised how may situations I have found myself in without a guitar tuner. You can't plug your instrument into your phone, but otherwise the HandDee GTuner at $12 does everything my $50 Sabine tuner does, and pretty much just as well.

This is an app no guitarist who has a Nokia 7610,6620,or 6670 should be without.

Note: current version does not work on the Nokia 6630
