I was doing some J2ME testing on the Audiovox SMT 5600, which ironically is a Windows Mobile 2003 device with the Intent JVM OEMed, and noticed that the JVM was very very fast. So i did a little googling and found the awesome JBenchmark result database which lists a few phones with this Intent JVM near the top (the Orange SVP C500 is essentially the same as the Audiovox SMT 5600).
Their benchmark tests are mainly graphics oriented, and our apps are generally database oriented, but a correlation definitely exists.
This site is a great resource for planning launch rollouts, especially where tuning comes later
