nokia releases python for series 60

Python for Series 60 has been released on Forum Nokia. Python is a runtime scripting language that runs on top of the Series 60 C++ libraries, and provides a level of abstraction away from the core Symbian libraries, but still providing access to the native widgets such as tabs that are unavailable to J2ME programmers.

Inlcuded in the package is the runtime itself, and documentation with examples including the new "Hello World", and RSS Reader. The old Hello World is there too.

The downside of the Python environment is the necessary inclusion of a runtime when deloying applications, which right now is not built into the Series 60 platforms. It does come with an interesting bluetooth debugging console that allows live debugging on the phone.

My initial take is that this dev environment will still be difficult for the average programmer...I'd wait for version 2 or integration with Metrowerks, Nokia's IDE for Symbian development.
