Buffalo LinkStation

A few weeks ago I had a buy.com coupon that was about to expire, so I picked up a LinkStation Network Storage Center 250GB from Buffalo Technology. Basically, I've gotten a bit lazy with my home backup strategy and I wanted to see if I could just toss a drive on the network that could serve as a hot backup for all the document directories on our various machines.

So, far, it's awesome. The drive itself is certainly easy enough to install and does what it's supposed to, but the real magic has come from the memeo AutoBackup software that was packaged with the drive. Now, I normally pooh-pooh these "you don't even have to think about it" software solutions and prefer DIY, but in this case I'm very impressed. You just install it on your Windows box and have it watch certain directories ... as soon as the software notices new files or updated files in those directories, it shuttles it off to the network drive. It just works, and now I always have my photos backed up as soon as they're uploaded. Recommended.

I totally agree! this thing is amazing and memeo could not work anymore easily.
