Target chock full o' PS3s
Well that didn't take long. A whole case full of 600GB PS3s at Target. I refrained. No good games yet anyway, and I'm just having too much fun with the 360.

Being Peter Kim: Blog measurement: authority vs. influence
a great quote from the personal blog of Peter Kim, a Forrester analyst:
Now that Blogbeat stats have been merged with Feedburner, there's no need to go anywhere else - and their customer service is FANTASTIC. Again, thinking about influence: these stats give you a sense of (1) new vs. returning visitors, (2) volume of traffic from inbound links, and (3) popularity of outbound links, i.e. what you are influencing.
Speaking of which, if any of my readers want our new Blog Stats turned on, just email me and we can turn it on for you.

TVersity Website
Looks like a cool alternative to Location Free Server, that allows you to broadcast web media to your PSP and XBOX 360 with real time transcoding. It can even take video podcasts and make them available for streaming to the device.
Something to try someday...

Pitchfork Feature: Top 25 Worst Album Covers of 2006
yep, some of these are pretty bad.
for example:
Check out this quote:
Okay, fine. But this cover is a bad gradient, a Larabie future font, a miscast drop shadow, and a clipart image that we've actually seen used elsewhere (twice!). If this was 1973-- and the music doesn't go out of its way to suggest it isn't-- Hipgnosis would be really disappointed.
and click through to read the rest:

Steve & Eric Playing Guitar Hero
Originally uploaded by FeedBurner Fotos.
I had never played Guitar Hero before today. It's a blast...I could totally get addicted.
I've actually been known to play the real guitar on occaision. I used to play a lot. I'm not sure it helps in the game.
Knowing the songs and how to find the beat definitely helps though.
So in case you wish to learn, here's a Y! Music playlist I created for Guitar Hero II : Playlist for Guitar Hero II

Chinese Government to Standardize Phone Chargers (MobileBurn)
It's hard to think of good reasons why this shouldn't be a standard everywhere. Especially my desk, where one can find no less than seven or eight different phone chargers laying around on any given day.
Every phone should have 3 ports:
1) USB small size, for transfer and charging. And RIM, make sure Blackberrys can charge using every other charger on the planet that uses this size port, as well as a usb-computer cable without running software on the PC
2) 2.5 mm headphone/microphone jack
3) 3.5 mm headphone/microphone jack
yes, they all should have both 2 and 3.

Trucker SEO
Who says blogging isn't mainstream? I'm not getting AdSense ads here drving traffic to the Trucking Blog, which of course is a great blog about trucking, for truckers, with ads and other offers for truckers.
I know i'm a cheap click, so he probably is paying a .05 for the click from my blog, and can drive clicks on what are probably much higher paying AdSense ads on the trucking blog.
Smart.

“Add This!” FeedFlare

The one thing I don't like about our FeedFlare service is that currently flares aren't very subscriber aware. As a publisher, I can choose if you can add to delicious, furl, fresqui, or magnolia, but I don't really know what your preference is. I might like Digg, you might like Netscape. And I don't really want 20 flares (until they are icons).
So i like the idea of adding 1 level of indirection to this process like AddThis.com has, at least until there is some support for this in the FeedFlare API out of the box.
You can add their personal flare here by using pasting this url:

Gears of War hits 2 million mark - cool network effect
GameSpot is reporting 2 million copues of Gears of War have been sold. Yep, death match, single player, multi-player co-op - it's all good. the surprising thing, however is the network effect that occured by selling such a great game with great online play:
"Since the game went on sale November 7, the daily rate of Xbox Live Gold subscriptions, which are required for online play, has increased more than 50 percent."
That's a pretty profound bump where the software has caused people to pay for service they wouldn't otherwise pay for. What I'd like to know, is how many purhcase decisions were made to buy a 360 based on GOW.
It certainly was no accident that this game was released the same week as the Wii and the PS3. I'm sure Microsoft was working on that timeline with Epic for months. I'm sure many people who were on the fence, or just couldn't wait to get their hands on a PS3 made the plunge.

Burning Questions • Blog Stats Rollout
Yep, as we announced in Burning Questions,we have begun the limited rollout of our Blog Stats offering that stemmed from the acquisition of BlogBeat from earlier in the year. I'm really excited to see this come to fruition and really impressed with the job the conversion team has done so far.
The best thing is, if you are already putting FeedFlare on your site, there's nothing else you have to do except check a box saying you want to get stats from your blog.
I'm already learning some cool things. For instance, a good chunk of readers are already hitting my blog with IE7:
i also really like the visitor detail.
So as of right now, we have Feed Stats, Blog Stats, and Ad Stats. Any guesses as to what could be next?????

Windows Mobile Team Blog : Power to the Smartphone
I've been trying out a new Cingular 8525 (made by HTC) because I'm still chasing that elusive dream of having the all-in-one phone with as fast a wireless network has possible. I also just have to have a GSM phone, dictated by my travel, so anything from Verizon just won't do.

There's a lot to like about the 8525, but the one problem I have with this device is the same problem I have had with every Windows Mobile (and its predecessor OS Pocket PC) device since they have been available: the battery life sucks.
I haven't fully conditioned my battery yet, but right now it's lasting about 6 hours.
Microsoft has some interesting tips on how to squeeze more juice out of their batteries, but should you have to do this as a user?

Search Engine Deoptimization?
I met someone a couple weeks ago who worked for an SEO company that specialized in Search Engine Deoptimization. Why on earth would you want your results not to show up first? Well, a few examples are
- your CEO is convicted of a crime
- someone demonstrates how to break your key product with a bic pen
- you are tired of a whiny blogger bashing your products for no reason (think Dell, for instance)
In all those cases, it would be best if the searches for your company didn't turn up those searches first.
Anyway, i just find it fascinating that there is such an amazing cottage industry that has developed around search.

Gears of War might be the most immersive videogame of all time. it's definitely up there with the original Quake, Call of Duty 2 (&3), and Resident Evil as games that have actually made me jump out of my seat.

Best Buy + Carphone Warehouse
I missed this that Best Buy and Carphone Warehouse are going to try a joint retail presence in the U.S. Most Americans have never heard of Carphone Warehouse, but it's a fun wireless toystore in the UK.
There are tons, and I mean tons of wireless resellers in the U.S. that sell cross-carrier phones and plans, but no one has quite put it together to a branded retail presence yet. It will be interesting to see if it works.
