Off Topic

The competition for worst movie of the 21st century is over. On the plane back from Las Vegas yesterday, I was forced to sit through "Legally Blonde 2: Red, white, and blonde". I say I was forced to watch it, because the elderly couple next to me was watching it, and apparently both unaware that he had headphones on AND that his wife was watching the same thing, the husband would frequently yell things like "The Senator's Dog is GAY! HAHA!!" in the direction of his wife. Thus, unable to finish a great book i was reading, and not wanting to yell at old people, for which you can go to dante's third ring of hell, i threw on the headphones and viewed along.

here's my review: Reese Goes to Washington. We discover that, beneath a very very thin veneer of protocol, politics in DC largely functions EXACTLY like a sorority! Isn't that cool? How FUN! But how on earth will Reese figure out to puncture this veneer of propriety and protocol that prevents people from doing the right thing and allows bureacracy and EEEEEEVIL to propogate through the legislative halls of our great land? well, i don't want to spoil the whole movie for you! But guess what? The really cool and honest Legislator that Reese goes to work for? She's kind of EEEEEEVIL!

Anyway, this film definitely proves an emerging trend: United Airlines has launched a new brand of in-flight viewing that I can only call Shitainment. The last three movies i've had the misfortune of watching on United were this, Hollywood Homicide, and Drumline. I won't bother to link to the IMBD entries for these as I would prefer to prevent anybody else from watching them. That's my civic duty for the day. Hey United, just show Casablanca or something on ALL your planes ALL the time. You can still save money and it will be funnier when the old guy yells: "HAHAHA HE SAID HE CAME HERE FOR THE WATERS!! HAAAAH!!!"

you forgot the part about how stifler's mom becomes a beauty parlor detective, and forces whatever stupid line the writers came up with into every scene.

united went from showing decent pay-per-view movies to free movies that rival "police academy: mission to moscow" and "battlefield earth". something had to give in a ppv system where everyone realized "hey, if i just plug my own headphones into this little thing that looks like a headphone jack, i can watch the movie for free!" maybe they can do the same with the cocktails.

i look forward to the day i can enjoy "gigli" with a cold milwaukee's best, gratis.

The last couple times I was subjected to a movie on a plane I don't think I actually listened to it. I could probably tell you the whole story of Drumline *shudder* but I'm pretty sure I absorbed that from occasional glances at the screen, my limited lip reading skills, and extrapolation from the trailer.

Next time I fly I'm bringing dark sunglasses, my big headphones and an iPod loaded with Violent Femmes and equally insulating noise.

Why can't the airlines just get a 10 disc membership with Netflix and let us just vote on what they've currently got checked out? "Okay folks, it'll be the 3rd disc of Futurama on the front half of the plane, those in the back want The Manchurian Candidate. Please swap seats if you're really disappointed."

In a shocking reversal to this recent trend, United played "Something's Gotta Give" on my way out west and "School of Rock" on the return trip two days later. I'd give both movies a personal thumbs-up -- uhm, at least they sure beat "Drumline." So maybe, just maybe, a little bit of taste has prevailed?

Still kind like Dinah's Netflix angle, though. You can bet Netflix would be happy for another chance to get their name in front of that traveling demographic.
