Death of the Browser?

So, apparently, the new thing is that the browser is going away. We know this because "important people" say it's going to go away and be replaced by "rich clients". There's an article this morning in Barron's about a new client that AOL is working on called "Navigator" (uh oh, this is the first warning sign that what's old is what's new again). On the sample Navigator UI, there are buttons for "yellow pages", "news", "weather", "movies", "personals", and "shopping", and one text field for "Search powered by google". So, you ask, why is this not a browser? Because the UI is ROUND! it's not SQUARE like a browser, but ROUND. Man, will those people at AOL ever stop innovating? A Round ui, that is gonna totally change the way i interact with media and information!

Okay, smartypants, next thing you're gonna tell me is it's actually safer to use my credit card online than it is to use cash in a store. As if.

Check out the new virtual world at http://www.there.com! Wow! I mean, what if you could do "virtual product placemement?" It's not just good for the kids, it could be good for *advertisers*!"

AOL is dead! Hee hee.

Reverse auctions!

Aggregate!

Kaibatsu or Zaibatsu or Tofubatsu! Whatever!

Let's get this economy going again.

It's the smoke and mirrors, Stupid.
