AdMob - a Mobile Pay Per Click/Call ad network
AdMob is a mobile ad network that looks interesting. It's both Pay Per Click, and Pay Per Call - and includes targeting by Geography, Device, and Mobile Platform (e.g. XHTML, MIDP 1, MIDP 2, etc).
I can see this being used to market Ringtones, Wallpapers, etc to particular devices since it is device/platform aware.
Typically, Mobile advertising has been a better channel for brand awareness campaigns, since most advertisers wouldn't have a mobile capable on the other side of the click.
It will be interesting to see how the operators react to this, if at all.

My QR Code

QR Codes are cool. This is a QR Code encoding the URL of this site.
Many Japanese bloggers have these on their site, and also have an applications on their phones that allows you to use the camera on your phone read the QR Code, and then direct your browser to that URL. Much easier than tap typing.
You can get your very own QR Code here:
http://qr.quel.jp/form_bsc_url.php
The fields are Title, URL, Size, and Color. All you have to fill in is URL.
Alright, now I look for a S60 app that can process these. Anyone know of one offhand?

wow what a week at FeedBurner
This has been a huge week at FeedBurner, and it's only half over! Let's recap
1. We launched a great new product, FeedFoundry, targeted at publishers with lots of feeds to manage and report on. I'm really excited about this product and our first announced customer, USATODAY.com. Check out their great feeds if you don't have them already.
2. We released an addition for developers who are creating mobile feed readers, our Mobile Proxy Server API available our developer pages. We have a few customers developing to this that we hopefully will announce soon, and we'll be providing more tools for developers early next month.
3. This one is really exciting, the release of FeedFlare, Part II. The footer you have seen on so many of those FeedBurner feeds is now availble for use on your site as well! Just put a small piece of JavaScript into your site templates, and configure it all via the FeedBurner website. Here's the configuration page, and you can read more about it at:
Burning Questions - The Official FeedBurner Weblog: FeedFlare, Part II
4. Last but not least, the release of FeedBurner.jp - FeedBurner for the Japanese marketplace. Done in conjunction with GMO Ad Networks, all the great features of FeedBurner are there and we'll soon integrate directly with Jugem, Yaplog, and Autopage to make it even easier for the hundreds of thousands of bloggers on those networks to use FeedBurner.

The FeedBurner Blogging family
Wow, how we've grown. We're now up to about 20 people here at FeedBurner plus some extended partners, and I decided to take five minutes and aggregate all of our employee's blogs (for those who blog). I'm sure I'm missing someone, but here we go:
John Zeratsky: Design, technology and culture
Eric Olson: VentureWeek
tins ::: Rick Klau's weblog
And from our extended teams in Japan and Spain:
Juan Luis Hortelano: Tecnorantes
Our fearless investor:
Brad Feld: Feld Thoughts
And of course, my co-founders:
Matt Shobe: It came from Black Background
Eric Lunt: Dancing About Architecture

Opera Mini now free (J2ME Mobile Browser)
Perhaps on the news of Google acquiring ReqWireless, who has the leading J2ME browser in the market. Opera has made their J2ME browser offering free.
Just go to http://mini.opera.com in your WAP/xHTML browser to download.
Otherwise for $2.99 you can get it delivered via SMS. Wow, 3 bucks for those who are too lazy to type in a mobile URL. That's steep.

W800i vs W810i
For those of you who have asked about the W800i I have been carrying around, I would wait for the W810i. Why? The addition of the 850Mhz band will likely make this get a lot better reception with Cingular Orange.
Click through to see more photos from Mobile Tracker.
As an aside, I noticed Mobile Tracker, once an AdSense poster-boy, has moved over to YPN ads on his site. Very interesting.

Yahoo Mail, fixed on my SE W800i - thanks Y! (updated)
update: no sooner did i post this, when someone from Yahoo! contacted me and said they would fix the issue! how is that for service! i didn't know anyone read this blog ;) i'm a special edge case... a non-carrier purchased phone on a depricated wireless network (AT&T Wireless). a rare gateway/phone combo, for sure. Anyway, thanks Yahoo! people for being responsive. Wow. I feel like Steve Rubel or something for stirring things up. self: welcome to the big leagues. cheek, meet tongue.

I currently forward a copy of every email I get to both Yahoo and Google's respective mail solutions. I'm currently using Y! Mail as my primary mail interface. I use this instead of GMail because I can make the FROM address my feedburner address instead of my Yahoo mail address and make the fact that I am using Y! as my email client pretty transparent , something I can't seem to do with Gmail.
However, I can't get the XHTML version of Y!Mail to work on my phone! My sidearm of late has been a Sony Ericsson W800i mostly because of its awesome camera and MP3 player, and I am operating on Cingular Blue (ne AT&T Wireless), but no matter how many times I login with the correct username and password, I get bounced back to the Y! login page. Bummer.
On the other hand, GMail Mobile and Google personal homepage both work great on the W800i!
What I wouldn't do for a 100% solution to anything.

Enhanced Podcast Converter for Mobile Phones
I haven't tried this but it is an interesting idea - packaging enhanced podcasts (podcasts with images) as j2me midlets instead of creating a generic player. There's might be some interesting reusable code in there, though.

one touch google on moto phones
interesting...
BBC NEWS | Business | Motorola adds Google to mobiles
mobile search is an interesting topic. it can be used for quick answers, but i think the interesting solution will be carrier agnostic and be handset sensitive. that is, when i search i should also get games, ringtones, etc for the phone i am searching on.
JumpTap has a solution that advertises this capability, but they are selling to carriers and not going directly to the consumers or the handset manufacturers - and selling to carriers is a very rough road to hoe.

New pics of the Parrot 3400 LS-GPS - to be launched at CES today!
The Parrot marketing department was nice enough to send me a scoop on the Parrot 3400 LS-GPS Live product that will be announced at CES today.
The retail suggested price will be $399 (€329 in Europe). Parrot is certainly leading the way in aftermarket handsfree GPS kits - definitely worth a look if you want to jump in!

back to the mac
oh, my fujitsu windows laptop got fried when i plugged an mp3 player into the USB port - so i'm back to my old 800 mhz powerbook G4. i've upgraded this thing to tiger, and man is it slow. i guess even apples can suffer from OS bloat. a lot more beachball than i remember, and my power fan seems to be going 90% of the time. what a nice looking UI, though.
